flashlight, match, beat, heavily, against, asleep, rise, apart, put pieces of

wood over the windows, fall asleep, die down, broke…apart.

Ben’s dad was putting pieces of wood over the windows

while his mom was making sure the flashlights and radio were working.

Ben was helping his mom make dinner when the rain began

to beat heavily against the windows.

He finally fell asleep when the wind was dying down at

around 3:00 a.m.

Although the storm broke many things apart, it brought

families and neighbors closer together.

Step 1:Warming

up and Lead-in

Ss answer some questions after watching the video. And learn

some key words about the rainstorm.

T asks : What can you hear during the rainstorm? Ss learn

some new words: strong winds, blowing, the rain began to beat heavily against

the window…

Show Ss some pictures after the storm and learn some key

words: in a mess, break apart


Step 2: Discussion:

Ask the Ss to discuss in groups: What things do you need to

prepare for the rainstorm?

2.    

Ss share their ideas.

3.    

Show Ss some pictures and learn the new words and

expressions.

Step 3: Reading

Ss read the first paragraph of 3a and answer the questions.

2.    

Check answers.

Step 4: Reading:

Para 2&3

Ss read and say True or false.

2.    

Check answers and correct the sentences.

Step 5: Reading:

Ss read and answer the questions.

Check the answers.
