Reading and Writing

Preparations:

Teaching goals:
1. Students can find out the structure of biography through reading.
2. Students learn some useful words, expressions and sentence patterns about biography.
3. Students can give a fair score to another student’s a785bposition.
4. Students can learn something from other students’ a785bposition.
5. Students can improve their own a785bposition.

Teaching Processes:
Step 1. Reading for the structure 
1. Finish the exercises on P37
Number the paragraphs in the correct order.
Write the number of the paragraph
Please write down the structure of the biography again.
 Para1 the reasons why the scientist is famous
 Para2 his/her personal life_______________
 Para3 his/her scientific career_____________
2. According to the structure above, ask the students to structure the information about Tu Youyou.

Step2. Reading for the language 
1.Ask the students to read the passage about Stephen Hawking again, and find out some words, phrases or sentence patterns which may be helpful to their a785bposition.

2. Ask the students to apply the words, phrases or sentence patterns to the biography of Tu Youyou.
①Tu Youyou is one of the most famous scientists in the world because of his/her scientific discoveries.
②She was born in Ningbo of Zhejiang in December, 1930 and graduated from Peking University.
③It was discovered that artemisinin had some disadvatnges.
④Creating artemisinin and dihydroartemisinin, she is the first native Chinese scientist who won the Nobel Price in Sciences.
⑤Her work was in the area of studying the medicine.

Step3. Improvement
1. Composition Assessment
Ask the students to give a score to their classmate’s a785bposition.
2.Ask the students to improve their a785bposition according to what they have learned and their classmate’s advice.
