M1U2 Growing pains -- Interpretation for Growing Pains
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. It’s my great honor and pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you.
I have been ready to begin this representation with five parts. Analysis of the teaching material, the teaching aims, the important and difficult points, the studying methods, and the teaching procedure.
Part 1 Teaching Material
The content of my lesson is Advance English Module 1 Unit 2 Reading. This unit is about Growing Pains. By the end of the class, students will have a good understanding of a play by reading and acting and are able to relate to others’ feelings and learn to deal with the growing pains in a wiser way.As we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning. The input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing.) Therefore, this lesson is in the important position of this unit. If the Ss can master it well, it will be helpful for them to learn the rest of this unit.
Part 2 Teaching Aims
According to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus (新课程标准和教学大纲), and after studying the teaching material, the teaching aims are the followings:
1.Knowledge objects (语言目标:语音,词汇,语法,功能,话题)
(1)The Ss can master the usage of the important words and expressions.
(3)The Ss can understand the content of the lesson, talk about growing pains and get their own idea about growing pains.
2.Ability objects (技能目标:听,说,读,写)
(1) To develop the Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing
(2) To guide Ss to set up effective studying strategies.
(3) To improve the student’s reading ability, and the ability to act out a play.
(4) To train the Ss’ abilities of studying by themselves and cooperating .
3.Emotion or moral objects (情感目标:兴趣,自信,合作,爱国,国际视野)
(1)By a785bpleting the task, the Ss increase their interest in reading and set up self-confidence in acting out a play.
(2)Teach the Ss how to deal growing pains in a wiser way in their life., put the moral education in the language study.
Part 3 the Important and Difficult Points
Based on the requirement of the syllabus.
The important point is understanding the play better by reading aloud and acting out it..
The difficult points is discussing with Ss about how to deal with the relationship with others in a wiser way ,especially with family members.
Part 4 Teaching Methods
As is known to us all, a good teaching method requires that the teacher should help Ss develop good sense of the English language. For achieving these teaching aims, (after the analysis of the teaching material and teaching aims,) I will use the following methods according to the modern social a785bmunication teaching theories(现代社会交际教学理论) .
1. Communicative Approach(交际教学法)
2. Whole Language Teaching(整体语言教学法)
3. Task-based Language Teaching (任务教学法)
4. Total Situational Action (情景教学) a “scene — activity” teaching method , it establishes a real scene and the interaction between the teacher and the Ss. At the same time, CAI (电脑辅助教学) can provide a real situation with its sound and picture, it can develop the Ss creativity in learning English.
Part 5 Teaching Procedure
Step 1:lead in by watching a short video! ( 3 min)
Task :Try to figure out the following questions while watching:
1).Who are the main characters in the video?
2).Why does the mom get angry?
3). Is Anna angry too? what is she angry for?
(Purpose of my design: to catch Ss’ attention and lead in the topic. And the 3 questions are designed in a similar way with questions in the passage.)
Step 2:Reading Home Alone
Activity 1: Reading strategy on P23---How to read a play ?( 2 min)

l Remember to pay attention to the _____________ such as (shouting angrily)
(Purpose of my design: to give Ss. instructions about how to read and understand a play better before reading .)
Activity 2 Read the play on P22 aloud and answer the questions.( 3 min)
1).Who are the main characters in the play?
2).Why do the parents get angry?
3).What happened to their dog, Spot?
(Purpose of my design: to learn who there are and what is happening in the story so that Ss. can get a rough impression of it.)
Activity 3 Read the play again and answer the questions.( 5 min)
1). What are the boys doing when their parents a785be home?
2). How does the room look when the parents arrive home?
3). Why are the parents angrier with Daniel than with Eric?
4). What is the emergency that Eric wants to tell his parents about?
5). What does the father want to do with Daniel?
(Purpose of my design: to have a better understanding of the play by detailed reading.)
Activity 3 Read the play again and fill in the blanks.( 2 min)
Mom and Dad arrive back from v______ a day earlier than e_______. They can’t wait to s______ the boys. Suddenly a soccer ball flies t_______ the room. Eric runs in after it, f_______ by a big dog. Activity 4: Read the dialogue aloud (pay attention to the instructions in red in the brackets(括弧,括号里))( 5 min)
l Dad:(sounding very angry):Listen to me, young man---we left you in charge! We thought you could act like an adult, but look at the mess! I don’t know why the house is so dirty…
l Mum: Daniel,we thought you were an adult, a person who would make good decisions…
l Daniel:(shouting) Stop shouting at me. I’m still a teenager! Why is everything always my fault?

(Purpose of my design: Role acting to practise how read a play.)

(Purpose of my design: emotional education to improve Ss. ability to deal with the relationship with others ,especially with families.)

(Purpose of my design: to make a summary of what we have learned in this class.)
Step 5: Assignment:Writing a letter to your parents, mom or dad, or both( 1min)
(1) Write down one special experience happened to your family .
(2) Tell parents your feeling about it.
(3) Show your love, respect and understanding for them.
(Purpose of my design: emotional education to improve Ss. ability to deal with the relationship with others ,especially with families.)
